During our adventure through the great American West, I wanted to focus some of my efforts on photographing a catalogue of images revering classic cars. My exploration of the Americana vibe generally included the presence of classic cars, as the design and aesthetic are synonymous with “vintage” America.
As family station wagons, multi-purpose pickups, and classic muscle cars became more available to the mass market, American people were able to head out and hit the open road like never before. For me, creating images of classic cars represents freedom, endless possibilities, and carefree travel.
Luckily for me, there was no shortage of both beat-up and well-preserved old cars littered along the seemingly endless highways we found ourselves traveling down. There was almost always a classic car bursting with character parked out front of all the old diners and saloons still standing along Route 66.
Using 35mm film for this project was a no-brainer for me. The film's tones, grain, and aesthetic make it perfect for the admiration of old America and its classic cars. I found that all of the rust, sun-weathered, rough paint jobs, analog radios, and tape decks transfer wonderfully onto film negatives.
Below are a few more images from the catalogue.
